February is synonymous with love isn’t it – even the most hard-hearted among us will be familiar with the concept of Valentine’s Day even if they don’t choose to celebrate. M and I also met (17 years ago!!) the week before Valentine’s Day, so this time of year is steeped in memories of making things.
A newer tradition has also popped up which I also rather enjoy – Galentine’s Day. This entered popular culture in 2010 as most things do, in a television series (Parks and Recreation) and is “ladies celebrating ladies”, or thanking your friends. Last year I sent scented narcissi from Cornwall to a girlfriend.
So, whether you are looking for Valentine’s Day inspiration, Galentine’s Day ideas, or simply something to give to yourself in an act of self-love, Amazon Handmade is a great place to start the search. I know it isn’t always done to admit you still shop on Amazon, but life is busy, we are not all perfect, and I strive to be authentic here. I could pretend I always shop at small independent retailers but that isn’t the case – I like to support them of course, but I am also realistic. I am often short of time, looking for the best price and the shortest delivery windows. Amazon provides that – and with their Handmade section, gives me access to smaller businesses which offer unique personalised presents.
I have always wanted a personalised name necklace* – probably since I saw Carrie wearing one on SATC. I am delighted with this one that was sent to me, and if you’re after something similar, you can get it here*. I like that it is nice and flat so you can wear it without having to constantly be aware of it. Light but not flimsy.
I also thought this prosecco/champagne glass* with my name on was really cute – pair it with a nice bottle of fizz and your love’s choice on Netflix, and you have a really sweet present which isn’t super expensive but is still really personal.
